There is a lot that the region has to offer.  Nevertheless, here is TRAFEKA’s overview of some of the most amazing moments to catch on an East African expedition;

1. Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park - Uganda

Of all the wildlife experiences on this list, Gorilla tracking in Uganda is definitely the highlight. There is a sense of awe that engulfs you when you first catch sight of the gorillas; picture a pair of male and female gorillas lounging-by on a slope, as our professional rangers lead you through the thick jungle. You will slowly creep your way past thick thorny bushes to a clearing, just inches away from them. Standing so close to these gentle giants is an absolutely dreamlike experience. You will catch different gorillas on your trek, including the enormous silverback.  Experiencing these endangered animals in the wild and entering their world with the help of our tour handlers, knowing you are in safe hands is thrilling.

2. Tracing Rwanda’s Troubled History - Rwanda

The Kigali Genocide Memorial does an excellent job of commemorating Rwanda’s 1994 genocide, which without doubt is still one of the most tragic events of Africa. The 1994 mass killings was a result of the civil war that broke out between the two main tribes of Rwanda – the Tutsis and the Hutus – becoming one of the biggest genocides in history, with over a million deaths. A visit to the Kigali Memorial Centre is unforgettable. The informative museum teaches about the events before, during and after the genocide. You will also comb through photos and artifacts that describe the brutal killings, as well as watch videos from survivors. Learn more about this tragedy through our tour handlers, knowing you are in safe hands.

3. Witnessing the Great Annual Migration at Maasai Mara - Kenya

Located in Southern Kenya, the Maasai Mara National Reserve is well known as one of East Africa’s best reserves. Each year, impressive herds of over 1 million wildebeest, zebra and Thomson’s gazelle cross over the plains in search for new pastures - dotting the landscape that stretches beyond the horizon. This very famous annual migration happens between June and November. Our trained team of professionals will ensure that this event is memorable and becomes a once in a lifetime experience for you.

4. Seeing the Big Five in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater - Tanzania

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a protected area and a World Heritage Site in the Crater Highlands of Tanzania whose plains are also traversed by large herds of wildebeests and zebras during the annual Great Migration – a great end to an amazing wildlife watching experience. Home to the vast, volcanic Ngorongoro Crater and the “big 5” game, which includes; elephants, lions, leopards, buffalos plus rhinos. Because of her landscape, Tanzania makes Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Conservation Areas the best places to watch wildlife, standing out from the other neighboring national parks.

5. Meeting the Maasai Tribe - Kenya

The Masai is an ethnic group of people, best known for their distinctive customs and dressing style. At the Maasai Mara, you will have the opportunity to visit the Maasai village where over 300 people of the same family live. Clad in bright red and black hand-woven cloth, the Masai will entertain you to warrior songs, while they perform their traditional jumping dance known as “Adumu”. Our team of experts will arrange for you to visit one of their homes or cultural centers to learn about their traditions and culture.
